WOODBOURNE, NY - SEPTEMBER 20: Infants eat lunch at the federally-funded Head Start school on September 20, 2012 in Woodbourne, New York. The school provides early education, nutrition and health services to 311 children from birth through age 5 from low-income families in Sullivan County, one of the poorest counties in the state of New York. The children receive 2/3 of their daily nutritional needs through meals, which include breakfast, lunch and snack, that are prepared at the school and served family-style in classrooms. The county Head Start Program was expanded with a $1 million grant from President Obama's 2009 stimulus bill, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Head Start, administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the longest-running early education program for children of low-income families in the United States. A baby name website just predicted the hottest names for this year.  Some of the best ones are Beatrice . . . Echo . . . Loxley . . . Osiris . . . Quincy . . . Thor . . . and Zelda.

I was thinking maybe new parents this year would reverse the recent trends and go back to more basic, traditional names.  But . . . NOPE.  Babies are going to get crazier names than ever.

The writers at just released their predictions for the 100 hottest baby names of this year, based on the trends they’ve been spotting.

Now, there are a FEW benign names that made the list, like Dylan, Emilia, Remy, Sadie, Sasha, and Simone.  But once you get past those, things get a little stranger.

One big trend they’re seeing is old-fashioned names making a comeback.  Their list includes Amos, Baxter, Beatrice, Birdie, Clara, Esther, Frank, Goldie, Gus, Isadora, Lionel, Monty, Otis, Ozzie, Quincy, Ray, Reuben, Ruth, Tallulah, Vera, and Winston.

There are also some pop culture inspired names, like Archer, Arrow, Bowie, Thor, and Zelda.

And, of course, there are some that are just as crazy as possible, like Calliope, Echo, Indigo, Keziah, Lachlan, Loxley, McCoy, Osiris, Saskia, and Zinnia.

(Here is the full list of 100 names.)
