No matter how you feel about Taylor Swift, she just caused major conversation.
Just before midnight last night she dropped “Look What You Made Me Do,’ the first single from her upcoming album “Reputation.”
This is no “Shake It Off.” This is a revenge piece, and most people want you to believe it’s yet another shot at Katy Perry…I say absolutely not, this new Taylor is aimed squarely at Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Remember the leaked phone footage on Kim’s Snapchat where she sought to prove that Taylor gave the OK and collaborated with Kanye on “Famous”? In my opinion, this is Taylor’s response to that power play. Kim even called Taylor a snake in the midst of that mess, and Taylor has turned the tables and is now using snakes as her symbol of power with this comeback.
In the song when she remarks, “I’m sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh. ‘Cause she’s dead,” I died. She slayed me. I’ve seen the comments calling it cute, or lyrically underwhelming, or trying too hard to be tough…and I think that’s inaccurate. Taylor knows her fan base, and she knows how to craft a narrative. And this new Taylor with a new attitude has payback to dole out, and I’m just sitting back with my popcorn ready for the show.
Oh, and side note: Taylor’s new merch revolves around snakes. Seriously, way to take ownership of the names you’ve been called, sis!
