Smart digital billboards are here, and will post ads based on your vehicle as you get closer.
Roadside cameras will read license plates while powerful computers make quick judgements based on your race, age and income levels to pitch you products through the billboards.
Even when the ads show up on roadside digital screens, cell phones inside the vehicle could light up with a message linked to the ad.
One company, Synaps Labs sets up their roadside cameras about 600 to 650 feet in front of electronic billboards. The cameras send images of the oncoming cars through a cellular signal to a computer.
It only takes the computer about a second to recognize the image of a vehicle and post an ad on the billboard that would apply to them.
Digital billboards are already on the sides of bus shelters and pedestrian walkways.
