A new self-driving shuttle van in Las Vegas has gotten into an accident on its first day of service, but the driver of the other vehicle gets the blame.
It’s the 1st in the nation. The 11-passenger driverless shuttle van was carrying passengers around its half-mile route on Wednesday when a delivery truck backed into it on a downtown street. The accident only caused minor damage. The delivery truck driver was cited by police for illegal backing.
Police say if the truck had the same sensor technology as the shuttle, the accident likely wouldn’t have happened. The electric-powered van began a 12-month pilot program on Wednesday.
