When I went to see Kendrick Lamar at the Amp earlier this month I asked myself, where’s SZA? Well, SZA has some bad news.
After a brief departure from the TDE Championship Tour due to swollen vocal chords, the singer returned to the stage Tuesday night at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Following her performance, she wrote a since-deleted series of tweets.
She wrote, “My voice is permanently injured. Tonight was the test. That settles that. ”
She later added, “I jus wanna be left alone my priorities are fu**ed up. They been fu**ed up. I need space goodbye.”
Last week, TDE’s CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith announced that they were pulling her from the tour for a few dates. He said, “Her vocal cords are swollen and she has to rest her voice to prevent any permanent damage.”
In her own statement, SZA revealed that she’d been relying on steroids to pull through her recent touring schedule. “This didn’t happen overnight,” she said.
